The much-anticipated Maruti Suzuki Ignis has been spied caught testing in India and a production-ready Ignis was spotted at a dealership revealing the design and exterior features of the upcoming car. The Ignis has a tall-boy stance similar to the WagonR for a dominating road presence. The car will boast of U-shaped projector headlamps with LED daytime running lamps and LED tail lamp. The higher variants of the Ignis are expected to get blackened-out alloy wheels as well as A, B and C pillars in order to give a sportier look.
Interiors and Features
The Ignis will get a host of features inside the cabin like a touchscreen infotainment system which will support Apple CarPlay and USB, AUX playback as well as Bluetooth connectivity and streaming on the higher variants. In addition, Maruti Suzuki is likely to offer the higher versions with push button start/stop, automatic climate control, reverse parking sensors with camera, leather upholstery with dual tone interior. In terms of safety, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis will also get dual front airbags and ABS (Anti-lock Braking System).
Engine and Transmission
The 1.2 litre K-series petrol and a 1.3 litre DDiS diesel engine that powers the Baleno, Swift and other Maruti Suzuki cars in India, will also be witnessed doing duty under the bonnet of the Ignis. The petrol engine generates 90 hp of power and is expected to be paired to a CVT automatic transmission and a 5-speed manual gearbox. The diesel unit, on the other hand, produces 88 hp, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. It is also speculated that the higher variants powered by the diesel engine may be offered with Maruti Suzuki's SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) mild-hybrid technology that delivers improved fuel efficiency compared to the non-SHVS variants.
Price and Competitors
Maruti Suzuki is expected to retail the upcoming Ignis from the company's Nexa dealerships priced between Rs 5.5 lakh and Rs 8 lakh, ex-showroom. In this price segment, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis will compete against the likes of the Mahindra KUV1OO.
The company has not officially confirmed the launch of the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ignis, but it is expected to be introduced on13th Jan uary, 2017.
