Maruti Suzuki seems to having an extremely busy 2016 with lots of action waiting to unfold. Contrary to earlier reports of the Baleno RS launch being delayed, the car will be launched by the end of 2016. The company had showcased the Baleno RS at the Auto Expo earlier this year and was expected to launch the car around the festive season. Later however, the company had to deal with long-waiting periods on the Baleno and the Vitara Brezza. With production struggling to meet the demand, the company was reported to have postponed the launch of the Baleno RS in order to clear the backlog first.
The Ignis compact crossover too was reported to be postponed but the company will go ahead and launch both the vehicles within this year. The company has been trying hard to increase production and meet consumer demand. With considerable progress already visible, we expect Maruti Suzuki to launch the Baleno RS ahead of the festive season. Doing so will allow the company to benefit from the positive sentiment around the festive season and get the car to a flying start.
The key highlight about the Baleno RS is its engine, a 1.0 L three-cylinder Boosterjet petrol unit. The engine has an impressive power output of 110 hp and 170 Nm of torque. The unit will be paired to a five-speed manual gearbox and possibly the CVT unit as well, which is offered on the present Baleno. The lighter engine will lower the overall weight of the Baleno RS, aiding performance and fuel-efficiency.
On the design front, the Baleno RS won't sport any major changes over the standard version. In line with its sportier positioning, it is expected to have redesigned bumpers and skirtings. Inside the cabin too, a flat-bottomed steering wheel and aluminium pedals are expected to add a bit of flair.
The Baleno RS will be sold alongside the regular Baleno through Maruti Suzuki's Nexa retail chain. The model is expected to be priced at about 8 lakh, ex-showroom, to start with. The Baleno RS will soon be joined by the Ignis, which will also be sold through Nexa.
