Mahindra’s XUV 500 has been launched in India today at a price of Rs.15.49 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), after almost a year of spy shots and teasing. The petrol powered XUV500 will make an interesting case for the SUV, since it is likely to be significantly lighter than the XUV500 diesel.It’s likely to be more dynamic in terms of control. The petrol engine which will be available in a single variant aka the G AT variant and will be available with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, will be the first SUV from Mahindra to come with a petrol option. However, Mahindra has limited to scope to only select cities where the XUV 500 G AT will be available as of today.
The new motor which has been developed by Mahindra in house will be a 2.2-litre petrol which will still have Mahindra’s mHawk badging will make around 140 hp and 320 Nm of torque, which is more than generous considering that the entire vehicle is likely to get significantly lighter. The automatic gearbox will also get a creep function and a manual mode option.
