Indian SUV manufacturer Mahindra and Mahindra is working on introducing a new petrol engine on the Mahindra XUV500. The company is planning to introduce the XUV500 with an m-Hawk 2.2-litre petrol engine in both manual and automatic transmission options confirmed Autocar. According to the report, the test mule of XUV500 with the petrol engine with the left-hand drive was spied in Dubai. M&M is also planning to introduce a facelift on the XUV500 next year. Mahindra XUV500 is expected to get major exterior and interior changes and will be powered by a retuned version of the 2.2-litre engine with an increased power and torque figures. Expect the new engine to produce 170 hp of power and 400Nm of torque. In addition, the company is also planning to introduce the electric version of the XUV Aero 500 whose concept was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. The prototype SUV-Coupe Crossover based on the XUV500 the Aero it was designed by Italian design firm Pininfarina and will be manufactured by Mahindra.
Mahindra XUV500 is currently offered with two diesel engine options, a 1.99 litre mHawk available only in the Delhi NCR and a 2.2-litre mHawk unit. They generate the same power and torque of 140 hp and 320 Nm respectively. These engines are mated to a 5-speed manual and have an optional 6-speed automatic transmission. Mahindra XUV500 is currently priced in the range of Rs 12.3 lakh- Rs 18.20 lakh (Ex-Delhi).The company is executing its plan to upgrade its product line up and is currently working on the facelift version of Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra KUV100 and new MPV that will replace Xylo. The new MPV is codenamed as U321 and will be based on a monocoque platform.
