In order to expand its UV (Utility Vehicle) range in India and to regain its market share, which has witnessed a considerable drop in the last three years, Mahindra and Mahindra is planning to launch new vehicles by late 2017. The first model will be a new SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle), internally named S201, which will be positioned between the ongoing KUV100 and TUV300. Although, the company has not yet disclosed details about the upcoming vehicles, but we expect the S201 to be priced between Rs 5 lakh and 7 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.
The Mahindra's S201 will compete with the likes of the Ford EcoSport and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. The car manufacturer will also launch another model in the country by 2017-end. It has been codenamed project U321 that will be placed above the XUV500 and will rival against the Toyota Innova Crysta. The company will also invest around Rs 1,500 crore on its Nasik and Igatpur plants in Maharashtra to make way for the new MPV. The upcoming vehicles should be priced aggressively in order to compete with rivals in their respective segments as well as to boost overall sales.
The carmaker is also planning to develop two new platforms for its upcoming vehicle, which are expected to be developed at the company's North America Technical Center. Besides this, Mahindra and Mahindra might also add more petrol variants to its product line-up by 2018, which could be 1.2, 1.5 or 2.0 litre petrol units. This is due to the rising demand for petrol vehicles.
