Mahindra files patent rights for ‘TUV 300 Plus’, might launch in November 2017

Mahindra TUV 300 was first launched in September 2015 and is being offered in seven variants including two AMT variants with price ranging from Rs 7.58 – 9.93 lakh (Ex-Delhi).

Mahindra and Mahindra have filed a copyright application to reserve the name ‘TUV 300 plus’ confirms a search report on Controller General of Patents Design & Trademarks owned by Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. If things work as per plan, then Mahindra will launch its latest iteration of TUV 300 in November 2017, a source close to the company confirmed. A computer generated report with application number 3613514 states that Mahindra has requested to patent TUV 300 Plus under class 12 which is reserved for apparatus for locomotion by land, air or water, motor land vehicles, cross country 2/4 wheel drive vehicles, utility vehicles, sports utility vehicles, compact SUVs, Multi-utility vehicles, all kinds of Off-roading utility vehicles, buses, tractors, trucks, engines, parts, fittings and accessories. The department is yet to clear this Mahindra TUV 300 Plus trademark and has sent to verify the Vienna Codification. This is done when the trademark comprises of logo or figurative elements. In this case, Mahindra TUV 300 Plus logo also needs to be copyrighted to be used on the MPV. While the company is yet to reveal any details on the new Mahindra TUV 300 Plus, reports and spy shots suggest that the MPV might now come with an increased wheelbase and a few exterior and interior changes. Mahindra might also offer front facing third row seats as an option along with the side-facing seats offered currently.

Currently, the TUV is priced in the range of Rs 7.58 – 9.93 lakh (Ex-Delhi). Mahindra & Mahindra sold a total of 26,241 units of Mahindra TUV 300 last financial year. At the launch in 2015, M&M has said that the design of the TUV has been inspired from a battle tank. Company owned Pininfarina was a part of the design team however; Mahindra’s designers did design most of the MPV. The Italian firm just provided support as and when required.
