Mahindra is known for taking out big-brawny vehicles with a 'go-anywhere' capability and the Indian carmaker has just expanded its portfolio with the Bolero Power+ that now has an mHawk D70 oil-burner under the hood. The new engine is mated to 5-speed manual and prices start at Rs 6.87 Lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi for the BS4 version. The new diesel unit generates 71 hp of max power at 3,600 rpm and 195 Nm of peak torque from 1,400 rpm to 2,200 rpm. The Mahindra Bolero Power+ will be available in three variants namely SLE, SLX and ZLX unlike the SUV powered by the BS3, m2DICR engine that currently has eight variants. The BS3 version will also continue to sell, however, only in BS3 compliant cities. In order to cut on excise duties, the Bolero Power+ is only 3,995 mm long.
In terms of the design, the silhouette remains exactly the same as the Bolero. The SUV carries forward the intimidating front grille with the 'Blue Vision' styled headlamp and dominating road presence. Like the exteriors, the interior also has no changes. The digital speedometer with all necessary warning lamps and other information required by the driver is neatly displayed. The steering has been updated to make this rather large SUV easier to drive. Other than that, the car has been practically untouched. Technologically, all variants come with an engine immobiliser to prevent thefts. That said, only the top-of-the-line gets a micro-hybrid technology and a Bluetooth connectivity audio system. The SLX also gets an audio system albeit the connectivity of a smartphone. Safety features like airbags, ABS with EBD are still absent.
Although, what would give a Bolero Power+ owner a complete peace of mind is the three lakh km or one-year standard warranty. Colour options on the vehicle are same as the earlier version namely Mist Silver, Rocky Beige, Java Brown and Diamond White. Power steering, air-conditioning, demister is standard across all variants.
Since the Bolero Power+ comes with a 1,493cc engine, it will be a good option for potential buyers looking for an SUV on a budget in Delhi, this would be the right buy and prospects need not worry about the 2,000+ cc diesel engine ban.
