Hyundai will launch the 2017 Verna today in India and the company has already started taking bookings for the sedan. The fifth generation Verna is powered by the same 1.6-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel engine that will be paired to both six-speed automatic and a six-speed manual transmission. The 1.6-litre Dual VTVT petrol engine develops 120 hp of power, while the 1.6 litre U2 CRDi VGT diesel unit generates 123 hp.The 2017 Verna is based on Hyundai's new K2 platform ‘super body structure’ that makes use of 50 percent advanced high-strength steel. This, in turn, improves the performance of the vehicle and also enhances the safety as the new chassis has undergone structural changes making the car safer.

105pm: Hyundai has priced the Petrol manual variant of the new Verna 2017 at a starting price of Rs 7.99 lakh ex-showroom. While the Diesel base variant will set you back Rs 9.19 lakh ex-showroom Delhi. These are introductory prices which will be available to the first 20,000 Verna buyers.
1252pm: Eco Coating technology makes a global premiere in the new Hyundai Verna. The coating ensures that micro-organisms that cause bad odour in the air conditioner after certain years are taken care of for a clean and fresh cabin.
1250pm: The seven-inch AVN system features IPS touchscreen display. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirror Link are part of the offering, making it an attractive proposition for buyers who prefer to stay connected on the go.
1248pm: The new Verna features as high as 50 % advanced high strength steel. 6 airbags and Isofix too are part of the package highlighting the focus on safety. With the Hands-Free Smart Trunk in the new Hyundai Verna one doesn't have to wave their hand or feet under or near the boot. Just stand next to it for a few seconds and the bootlid will automatically open.
1246 pm: The 2017 Verna's Fuel-efficiency for 1.6 litre Gamma D- VTVT petrol is rated at 17.7 kmpl. The 1.6 litre U2 CRDi diesel unit returns 24.75 kmpl.
1245 pm: The new Verna 2017 will focus on the Noise, vibrations and harshness. NVH reduction measures include a rigid structure, tunnel insulator, expanded foam application and double sealing of door poles.
1240 pm: Hyundai is positioning the new Verna as a modern and aggressive sedan. That aim becomes clear with the fact that the 1.4-litre engines have been done away with from the earlier Verna. Only 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engine with6-speed manual/ AT on offer now.
1235 pm: The all new K2 platform brings the new Verna's dimensions up to 4440mm in length, 1729mm in width and 1467mm in terms of height. The new wheel-base will be 2600mm.
1230 pm: The new Verna 2017 will be available in 7 optional colours they are, Polar white, sleek silver, Star Dust(Gun metal) Sienna Brown, Flame orange, Fiery Red and Phantom Black.
1215 pm: The new Verna will benefit from a raked windshield and low roofline, the new Verna bears a profile similar to coupes. In addition, this low-slung design also aids aerodynamics as the car has a coefficient of drag of just 0.308.
1210pm: Working with the K2 platform, which also forms the backbone for Elantra allowed engineers to increase the length and interior space and boot space on the new Verna.
1205 pm: Hyundai will sell the new Verna 2017 with 3 years unlimited kilometre warranty and roadside assistance along with three free map updates. That increases Verna's value proposition at the price point.
1200 pm: Front cascade grille is going to be a signature design symbol of Hyundai's new design language, an evolution of their fluidic design language. That they are calling Fluidic sculpture 2.0. It picks up from where Fluidic design picks off.
1155 am: Hyundai has been on the up and up throughout their journey to India.2017 has been even better with Grand i10, Elite i20 and Creta sales amounting to over 1.3 million units combined by July. Which is possibly their highest figures for the first quarter in a long time.
1150 am: The new Verna also gets a whole host of features on the interior include a 3.5-inch "Supervision" TFT screen, an adjustable rear headrest and a slide-to-adjust arm rest for the driver. In addition, it will also get a cooled glove box.
11:45 am: Aside from improved headroom and legroom, the new Verna will also benefit from a cavernous boot which will have 480l of space, which is more than one requires for a family weekend getaway.
11:40 am: Hyundai has announced that the launch will start at 1200pm today, the 5th generation of the Verna is just around the corner. The new car will have improved body dynamics that comes courtesy the new K2 platform, which not only increases the stability in the upper triple digits but has also shown a drop in coefficient of drag to .308.
11:35 am: Navigation is one of the features that will possibly set the Verna apart from its competition. Remember the new Verna is likely to get Android Auto and Apple Car Play which will make it easier to pair and use your phone once on the move. Only the Maruti Suzuki gets the same in the segment while the Honda City still uses their own mobile pairing software.
11:30 am: The Verna gets some touches to the exterior cosmetics as well in the form of an electric sunroof, a cascade design front grille, projector headlamps, fog lamps with LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps) and LED tail lamps.
11:25 am: In terms of safety the Verna will get six airbags and rear parking sensors and camera. These will take the new Verna to the forefront in terms of safety in it's segment! The Hyundai have also worked on the mountain points for the suspension to make it ride better and offer more in terms of safety.
11:20 am: The new Verna will also get rear A/C vents and an updated 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice recognition and navigation.
11:15 am: The Hyundai has already started accepting pre-bookings for the new Verna at Rs 25,000 across its dealerships in India.
11:10 am: The new chassis facilitates for more legroom and headroom in the back. It is also likely that the front seats will get a ventilated cooling feature, which is another thing the Verna will get from its elder sibling.
11:00 am: The new Verna will compete with the likes of the Honda City and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, while the Verna has always been a strong competitor in this segment, it is expected that the new Verna will bring the fight straight to these and put a serious dent in their sales.
10:55 am: The new Verna will get two engine options a 1.6-litre Dual VTVT petrol that will make 120 hp a .6 litre U2 CRDi VGT diesel unit generates 123 hp. Both engines will be available in Manual and automatic.
10:50 am: The benefits of the new body shell and improved NVH insulation are clearly evident. At a cruising speed of 90 km/h, there is almost no sound inside the cabin except some noise from the tyre roll. The engines are the same as found in the present model but have been worked upon for better efficiency and improved drivability.
10:45 am: The clutch is quite light and the gear lever throws are short and smooth, which should result in an easy-to-drive car in traffic. Acceleration is also impressive and the new Verna attains 120 kph effortlessly. Setting off in a manual Verna is now smoother and the automatic too shifts at a quick pace.
10:40 am: The ride quality has been improved on the new car and it even handles better than the outgoing model. The car feels significantly more stable than the present Verna and body-roll is lesser now. The front too now dives a lot lesser than the present model and we are confident this should be a good car to drive.
10:35 am: Fuel-efficiency figures are yet to be disclosed by Hyundai but we expect them to be at par with the segment leader and maybe better too in the case of the diesel versions.
10:30 am: Other new features include a rear curtain, an updated infotainment system and eco coating, which is a global debut by Hyundai. The Eco coating helps control/eliminate bad odour inside the cabin.
10:25 am: The new Verna will get a whole host of new features that will set it apart from the competition, including a wave-to-access boot-lid. Which makes it easier to load and unload when you have things in your hands. A segment first for the Hyundai!
10:20 am: Hyundai has improved the Verna in terms of space too, there is considerable improvement in the length, width and headroom are more than the present model. The front seats are impressively comfortable and are going to appeal to many due to the ventilation feature, which is going to keep the backside of front occupants cool in the summer.
10:15 am: Hyundai has switched out the old platform for the new K2 platform which is a composite alloy with 50% made from high-tensile steel. This not only improves the ride of the vehicle but also drastically reduces the NVH while driving.
10:10 am: The new Verna gets a petrol and diesel engine, both displacing 1.6 litres. While the petrol will develop about 120 hp, the diesel one will develop around 123 hp. The petrol unit is a Dual VTVT unit, while the diesel is the U2 CRDi VGT mill. Hyundai will sell you the new Verna with a six-speed automatic gearbox with both petrol and diesel engines along with the standard six-speed manual unit.

The new Verna gets a hexagonal grille with chrome lines and the sleek and swept back headlamps with a triple-vertical layout and projector headlamps and LEDs.

However, the outgoing model grew dated facing stiff competition from the likes of the Honda City and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. With the launch today, Hyundai will be looking to settle its scores in the segment.
