The Super Sports Utility Vehicle is no longer impossible says the Italian sportscar maker Lamborghini and the company now confirms that the production version of its Urus SUV will make its global debut on 4th December 2017. Lamborghini Urus SUV was first showcased as a concept in 2012 and since then it has been under development but looks like the SUV will soon go on sale and expect the vehicle to debut in India in 2018. The company has officially started teasing the SUV across its social media platform and the video showcases the legacy of Lamborghini and features cars like the Miura, the countach and also the original LMx002 SUV and the evolution of its car’s designs leading up to the Urus SUV. But other than the small glimpse of the sketch and the release date the company has been discreet and hasn’t shared any more details. To manufacture the Lamborghini Urus, the company has built a separate facility close to the manufacturing unit in Sant'Agata Bolognese at an investment of about $400 million. In a media statement Lamborghini says, “The Lamborghini Urus redefines possibilities, creating a class of its own: unprecedented SUV performance, luxury and versatility, with the distinctive dynamic design DNA of a Lamborghini super sports car. The Super Sports Utility Vehicle is no longer impossible.”
The upcoming Lamborghini Urus SUV will be based on the Volkswagen Group’s MLB platform that also underpins SUVs like Bentley Bentayga, Audi Q7 and the Porsche Cayenne. It is expected to get the 4.0L turbocharged V8 engine shedding about 650 hp mated with an All Wheel Drive (AWD) system. Lamborghini has already ruled out the possibility of rolling out electric vehicles any time soon. The company expects to invest in hybrids in the near future and expect the Urus to get a hybrid model by 2020. Like the Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini’s SUV will also be sold in India and is expected to make an Indian debut next year.
