Italian sports car maker Lamborghini has been one of the most aspiration brands and every kid always dreamed of either owning one or working at Lamborghini. Fast, sharp and future looking concepts printed on posters made it to bedroom walls uphill now but what about the future? Lamborghini has already brought in its Urus SUV and started the year 2018 by introducing the upgraded version of Lamborghini Aventador. In many ways, both Lamborghini Aventador and Lamborghini Urus vehicles reflect Lamborghini’s present and immediate future design direction and the company is also betting big to increase its profits with its current product portfolio. But what will all recently born kids look forward too? How will their bedroom walls look like when they become teenagers? Lamborghini does have an answer here.
In many ways, both Aventador and Urus vehicles are Lamborghini’s present and immediate future and the company is also hoping to increase its profits. But what will kids born very recently will look forward too? How will their bedroom walls look like when they become teenagers? Lamborghini does have an answer there.
The answer given by this company is - Lamborghini Terzo Millennio concept car developed by Lamborghini in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and was first showcased in November 2017. In an interview to Digital Trends, Mitja Borket, Head of Design at Lamborghini explained how Terzo Millennio concept car is the next big aspirational product for both the company and the upcoming future generation. As a matter of fact, Terzo Millennio means “third millennium” in Italian and so that way even the name is addressed keeping the future customers of Lamborghini in mind.
Borket further added that it was a dream coming true for him to work on this Lamborghini’s future car and was a big statement for him as the head of design. Digital Trends interview quotes him saying, “I worked on 100 percent, and it was absolutely cool and unexpected to make such a statement. It’s, of course, quite a car.”
Lamborghini Terzo Millennio was first unveiled at MIT and not at some auto show and it was also for the first time the Italian carmaker presented in front of students in classroom addressing the young minds. Lamborghini is also looking to keep its future cars electric ready and with this new Terzo Millennio concept, the proportion of the car is going to play a major role. The design of the car has to have a lower stance. But currently, most of the electric vehicles have a battery pack beneath the driver which will make it difficult to make super-low cars in future.
“As a designer, I’m just pointing out this is one way to do things, and it’s fine. But what do we want to have in 10 or 15 years? Depending on what is happening in the different global markets, if electrification is becoming mandatory, then I’m pointing out we need to find some other solutions to keep those dreams alive” added Borket.
The whole point of introducing Lamborghini Terzo Millennio was to make a statement and ensure that its nothing like a car that anyone can buy now. The concept, of course, is designed to be more radical and without any constraints. Making this car to production is feasible but in limited quantity says Borket. He adds Lamborghini can make anything possible. But as this has already been showcased the company will not further build it. He adds, our motto is “expect the unexpected.”
Lamborghini does not want to use the concept as the basis of production vehicles and wants to come u with new ideas and invent new shapes of cars. We cannot use the concept as the basis of a production vehicle. We have to come up with new ideas and invent new shapes.
