Recently Jeep India launched its third product, the Jeep Compass in India and now the SUV maker will soon add another model to its India line-up. The company might launch the new Jeep Renegade at the 2018 Auto Expo in February, if the carmaker decides to take part in the auto show. The Renegade has already been spotted testing in India a few times, hinting it's close to the production stage. Renegade will be the company's entry-level model and is expected to be priced under Rs 10 lakh, ex-showroom. Internationally, the Jeep Renegade measures 4,231 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2,570 mm. If in India, the car carries the same dimensions the Renegade will not be categorised under the sub-4 metre in India. However, it will compete with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport in the segment. Jeep is mainly known for its premium SUVs and with the launch of the new Renegade in the country, it will cater to the mass market for the first time. With the launch of the Renegade, the car manufacturer will steadily gear up its sales volume in the country. The company has also started localisation, which will help the brand to price its models competitively in India.
The upcoming SUV sports the same rugged stance found on Jeep models and is likely to feature round halogen headlamps with DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps) and a signature-styled front grille. The SUV maker will also equip the Renegade with front fog lamps and black or body-coloured bumpers with air-intakes. The roof rails, sunroof, black coloured ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) and wheel arches will also be a part of the exterior equipment.
The interior of the Jeep Renegade is expected to get an all black theme with contrasting beige or silver accents on the dashboard, door trims, steering wheel and gearbox. The cabin will also feature a dual-tone fabric seat upholstery, while the higher versions are likely to get leather seats. Jeep will also equip the Renegade with an infotainment system mounted in the centre of the dashboard with rotary knobs, automatic climate control and leather wrapped steering wheel. The Jeep Renegade will also feature driver armrest, steering mounted controls and many utility spaces.
The Jeep Renegade will get a host of standard active and passive safety features such as driver and front passenger airbags, while the upper variants are expected to get front and rear side-curtain airbags. The Renegade will be available with parking aids like the reverse camera and parking sensors and much more.
The car manufacturer has not confirmed about its engine options and launch date, but the new Jeep Renegade is expected to be powered by Fiat's 1.6-litre MultiJet diesel engine or a 2.0 litre diesel unit that also powers the Compass. The engines are likely to be paired to a manual and an automatic gearbox, similar to the Jeep Compass. The upcoming SUV is also expected to be available with a four-wheel drive system. Internationally, the SUV is offered in four trims, namely; Sport, Latitude, Altitude and Trailhawk. The variants are powered by a 1.4 litre MultiAir turbocharged petrol engine with 160hp, while the Trailhawk version gets a 2.4 litre naturally aspirated MultiAir petrol unit.
