Jeep India recently launched the Compass in India at a price tag appreciated by many and there have been talks of the Renagade launching in the country. The compact SUV is likely to be launched at the 2017 Auto Expo in February. Before the Renegade even officially enters our market, there are already talks of Jeep developing an SUV even smaller than the Renegade, which is slated to be priced at about Rs 10 lakh. According to Automotive News, Jeep is developing a new SUV to slot under the Renegade, and that will not be sold in North America. The new pint-size SUV will be aimed at countries which appreciate SUV styling but with the ease of a small city car. Well, India has had a long-lasting affair with compact SUVs, that began with the launch of Ford EcoSport years ago. Therefore, it is safe to say that the new Jeep will be making its way to India.
The idea of a smaller Jeep has been doing rounds for long now - something that was hinted at by Jeep boss Mike Manley when he admitted in an interview with Autocar at the Paris Motor Show last year that the brand could explore a sub-four metre SUV.
“I’m pretty confident that it is going to be a viable segment for us in the future. The reality is that we have to go through all of the usual business planning processes first,” he'd said.
Manley went on to explain that if there is to be such a model, it would live up to Jeep's 'go anywhere' capabilities. However, there is so far no confirmation but a new small SUV codenamed 526 is apparently in the works for India and will be produced locally.
