Jeep India is all set to launch its entry-level SUV Compass by the end of this month or in the first week of August. The company's dealers have already started accepting bookings for the new Compass at an amount of Rs 50,000 and the car is expected to be priced between Rs 15 and Rs 21 lakh, ex-showroom, although the company has not yet indicated the prices. With this price bracket, the Jeep Compass will compete with the likes of the Tata Hexa, Mahindra XUV500 and Hyundai Creta. The new Jeep Compass will be available in three variants, namely; Sport, Longitude and Limited. The upcoming Compass will be the first SUV in the company's portfolio that will be locally manufactured at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' (FCA) plant in Ranjangaon near Pune. The car manufacturer has also invested around $280 million for the development of the Compass in India.

Powering the new Jeep Compass will be a 1.4 litre Multiair petrol engine and a 2.0 litre diesel engine. The petrol engine will produce a maximum power of 160 hp and will churn out a peak torque of 250 Nm. The engine will be paired to a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The diesel variants with a 2.0 litre unit will develop 172 hp of power maximum power and 350 Nm of peak torque. It will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The 2017 Jeep Compass will feature all-wheel-drive system (AWD) with a shift-on-the-fly drive selector knob. It also features different modes such as snow, sand and mud for different driving conditions, while the AWD system will be best suited for off-roading. The shift-on-the-fly is equipped with an Auto mode that detects what terrain the car is running on and automatically adjusts the settings of the all-wheel-drive system as per the driving needs. The system is offered only in the top versions - Limited and Limited (O). According to the company, the Jeep Compass will use hot stamping that will be welded to each other using a laser welding technology to make the SUV rigid as well as lighter compared to the conventional methods.

Some of the standard safety features that will be equipped with the Compass will include a four-channel ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and ESP (Electronic Stability Program). The company will also offer optional features such as Panic Brake Assist, Brake Booster Failure Compensation, Roll Mitigation, Brake Pre-Fill and airbags.
