Fiat Chrysler Automobile India has issued an voluntary recall of its latest Jeep Compasss SUV already sold to customers for replacement of the front passenger air bag. This recall is a part of global recall that's under way in North American market as well. In India, approximately 1,200 Jeep Compass which have already been sold will be recalled to fix the air bag issue.

In a statement issued by the company, FCA India said that a supplier has advised FCA that during air bag module assembly process, loose fasteners may have inadvertently found their way undetected into a small number of modules.

The statement further said "the number of affected Jeep Compass SUVs is expected to be less than one percent (1%) of the total recall population. However, should such a vehicle be subject to an impact that causes the front passenger airbag to deploy, loose fasteners may pose a hazard. Thus, FCA India will replace the passenger airbag on an estimated 1,200 Jeep Compass SUVs to eliminate this concern."

"The Company is unaware of any related injuries, accidents, warranty claims or complaints. Nevertheless, customers whose vehicles are in the affected range are advised to refrain from using the front passenger seat until the situation is remedied."

Jeep Compass SUV has helped FCA India to revive its fortunes in the Indian market and so far has been a successful model for the company. The vehicle made its India debut in July 2017 and till October 2017 the company had already sold over 7000 units of Compass. Jeep Compass has been priced between Rs 14.95 – 20.69 lakh (Ex-showroom) in India. This is also the first Made-In-India SUV from the iconic Jeep brand and the Indian arm of FCA claims to have achieved a localisation of 65%. The company has invested $280 million in its Ranjangaon facility in Maharashtra that has allowed Jeep India to mobilize its localisation strategy. The company has already commenced the exports its major export markets.

In the coming week, FCA India and their authorized Dealers will directly contact customers whose Jeep Compass SUVs require a front passenger air bag replacement, and confirm appointments at authorized workshops. This replacement exercise will be carried out at no cost to customers confirms the company.
