Mercedes-Benz India today launched the new SLC 43AMG at a price of Rs 77.5 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. The latest car replaces the SLK range, which has been around in the Indian market for a long time. The SLC 43AMG is also the sixth launch by Mercedes-Benz India in line with its aggressive product expansion plans. While the latest convertible car seems to be an exciting proposition for enthusiasts, we bring you five key things that set the SLC 43AMG apart from other convertibles in the market.
The new 3.0 L V6 turbocharged petrol engine replaces the V8 found on the SLK and offers 367 hp and 520 Nm of torque. Not only is the engine lighter than the unit it replaces, it's 20 % more fuel-efficient too. The turbo unit has been optimised to offer response even in lower engine revs and negate turbo-lag. The SLC 43AMG can launch from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds.
Any performance car's experience is incomplete in the lack of an exciting exhaust note, moreso in the case of a convertible, which allows for a louder aural experience. Mercedes claims to have this need covered by the usage of a new sports exhaust system. The system uses a modified structure of thexhaust silencer through the integral exhaust gas flaps, which work in accordance to the chosen drive mode.
9-G TRONIC Transmission
The SLC 43 AMG is presently the only convertible in the country to offer a nine-speed automatic transmission or the 9G-TRONIC as Mercedes calls it. The unit offers the driver a choice between five driving modes, which alter the shifting speed of the unit. Apart from offering quick shifts, the unit also helps improve fuel-efficiency.
The Direct-Steer system is claimed to offer enhanced comfort to the driver as it features a variable steering ratio dependent on the steering angle. This reduces the required steering movement and effort while parking and driving through traffic. Through corners though, the system offers a higher response to steering input , thereby improving agility. In addition, the system does not use any power while driving in a straight line, helping improve fuel-efficiency.
While the standout feature of the SLC 43AMG is its convertible hard-top roof, it's cabin also has a few interesting tricks up its sleeve. Navigation and smartphone integration has been designed for Apple carplay and Android Auto, ensuring a wider range of drivers feel at home inside the cabin of the SLC 43AMG. In addition, the car comes loaded with Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive assistance and the latest safety features, which ensure convenience and safety of the top order.
