Ferrari has released the first official footage of its much-anticipated 488 GTO. The video shows the higher-performance V8 supercar in action, on-track at the brand's Maranello base.
The hottest and fastest road going Ferrari 488, the GTO, has broken cover for the first time. Ferrari have dropped a video on facebook where the Ferrari Fettled V8 is in action on the track at their Maranello test track. The 488 GTO like ones that came before it is set to be the most-hardcore, track-focused road-car from Ferrari this far. At 700 hp from it V8 Ferrari Challenge sourced motor, the Ferrari 488 is running a fine line between it and hypercar territory. The Ferrari will also get two aero focused models that will maximise the downforce ensuring that the Ferrari doesn’t go flight mode.
According to Ferrari, who have been strategically leaking information on the GTO as is goes into production have mentioned in the past that the engine will be 10 per cent lighter than the standard. They have also said that this Ferrari 488 GTO will have Ferrari most powerful production V8 in history. We expect that the 488 will also get a considerable bump in torque from the standard 760 Nm.
The 488 GTO will go toe to toe, with Porsche’s manic GT2 RS, and will serve as a replacement for the currently discontinued 458 Speciale. Take it for granted that the driver focused, performance oriented GTO will also get an extensive list of carbon fibre parts, on the tub and the body. We also expect that to maximise the performance, the bonnet, bumpers and rear spoiler will be made from carbon fibre as well. Not to mention the 20-inch carbon fibre rims, which save 40% in terms of weight.
