It’s always difficult to live up to a legacy, especially when you belong to the Lamborghini family and that’s what the new Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster has to live up to. The new drop top sports car has inherited the legacy of the historic S models of the Lamborghini Miura, Islero, Countach, and Urraco sports cars. The Italian sports car maker has unveiled the car at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The open-top Aventador S Roadster will feature a new V12 engine that sheds a power of 740 HP with a four-wheel drive setup. The design of the Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster combines deep and bold lines focusing on the overall aerodynamics of the sports car. The aggressive lines on the cars are inspired by nature and aeronautics says Lamborghini. The car’s rear sports different lines to the coupé, giving the roadster its own aerodynamic character. An engine bridge runs from the back window to the rear in a mix of body color and matt black painted carbon fiber engine bonnet blades: a transparent option is also available to show off the V12 engine within. The Aventador S Roadster gets removable hardtop roof panels which weights less than 6 kilograms. The roof is finished in matt black carbon fiber. After the launch the sports car will also get the option of high gloss black, shiny visible carbon fiber, and many other customization options.
“The new Aventador S Roadster sets new benchmarks in technology and performance on both road and track, with the roadster version adding a new dimension in driving enjoyment,” says Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Stefano Domenicali. “The Aventador S Roadster offers the thrill of open air driving without compromising on driving dynamics or the occupants’ comfort, and adds a further luxurious dimension through the personalization options available.”
Just like for the Aventador Coupé, the interiors of the Aventador S Roadster is sporty and luxurious.
The soft carbon used inside is 28% lighter than Alcantara. Along with the 740 hp of power the Aventador S Roadster also produces a torque of up to 690 Nm. Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3 seconds and claims a top-speed of 350 kmph. The car will also support four driving modes allows selection of STRADA, SPORT and CORSA and the new EGO mode, each influencing every aspect of the car’s behavior through management of traction, steering and suspension.
The active rear wing optimizes the car’s aerodynamic balance depending on speed and the selected drive mode, and its significantly enhanced overall aerodynamic design improves front downforce by more than 130% over the previous Aventador. With the wing in optimum position the roadster achieves over 50% overall efficiency at high downforce and in low drag more than 400%. EGO allows the driver to set up his preferred criteria in each mode to suit his driving style.
Globally Lamborghini will commence deliveries of Aventador S Roadster in February 2018. The car will cost €313,666 in Europe which is about 2.39 crore in India. However, with additional taxes of CBU cars the Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster will be launched at about Rs 4 crore mark in the Indian market. The car is expected to make its India debut later in 2018.
