Bookings for the much-awaited Datsun rediGo hatchback will commence from 1st May, 2016, confirms the company. Interested buyers can pre-book the car by paying a sum of Rs 5,000. Deliveries, however, will be commenced from June 2016. Though the variant-wise prices will be revealed only at the launch, the company has made it clear that it will be between Rs 2.5 lakh - Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom) . At this price, it will become the most affordable car in its category.
The Datsun rediGo has been designed, developed and manufactured with high-level of localization. The hatchback shares its platform with the Renault Kwid. Though, it’s slightly taller, lighter and more spacious than its sibling. The rediGo measures 3,430mm in length, thus making it 249mm shorter than the Kwid. Datsun’s new hatchback is also claimed to offer best-in-class ground clearance of 185mm. The wheelbase of 2,430mm promises a generous cabin space and kneeroom for occupants.
Moving to the engine, the Datsun rediGo will derive its power from an 800cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine that is good for 53.2bhp and 72Nm of torque. This powertrain has been borrowed from the Kwid. Transmission on offer will be a 5-speed manual. The rediGo is expected to return class-leading mileage, thanks to its lightweight body-construction and compact design.
Based on Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-A platform, the rediGo looks more like its concept. The front fascia of the car features a hexagonal grille, chromed bumper, sweptback headlamps with LED daytime running lights, a sculpted bonnet and LED fog lamps. Other design elements include steel wheels, vertical tail lamps, contoured tailgate, separate reflectors on rear bumper, etc.
