Several car manufacturers have announced within the past 15-20 days that the prices of the cars in their line up will be increased starting 1 January. One of the reasons cited by the brands has been the increase in input costs that will lead to an increment in car prices starting January next year. Skoda Auto announced in the last week of November that cars will get expensive in 2018. The company issued this hike in the range of 2 to 3 percent, saying that changing market conditions along with multiple economic factors are key reasons behind this impact. Skoda cars will be more expensive by Rs 14,000-50,000. Similarly, Isuzu Motor India will be increasing the prices on its product lineup by 3-4% starting 1 January. Isuzu is most known for the D-Max, which will see a price hike of about Rs 15,000 for the regular cab commercial vehicle and the premium SUV MU-X will be costlier by about Rs 1 lakh.
Honda became the third car manufacturer to announce price hikes up to Rs 25,000. A spokesperson for the Japanese brand said that the company plans to hike prices on all models ranging between 1-2% from January next year. Honda has clarified that the reason behind the increment is a rise in input costs, explaining that cost of base metals has been raised.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor has also said that there will be an increment in prices across its model range by up to 3% from January 2018. This will raise the price of the Toyota Fortuner, which is currently priced at Rs 26.02 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base model, by about Rs 78,000 and the increment on the top trim will be about Rs 95,000. Mahindra & Mahindra too is set to raise prices in the range of Rs 7,000-30,000, depending on the model.
Discounts before the price hike
Before the price hike happens, there are still some days to bring home a brand new car at its current price tag and what's better is that dealerships are offering some neat discounts on the cars. If you are not keen on bringing a new car during the end of the year, you could book it now and have it delivered when the new year sets in.
Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai happen to be refraining from such price hikes so far, and dealerships of the two brands are offering discounts too. Maruti Suzuki dealerships are offering cash discounts and exchange bonuses on its hatchback Alto 800 to its MPV Ertiga. For the first time, some dealerships are giving benefits on Ignis that will be available with discounts of up to Rs 40,000.
Hyundai cars also have cash discounts and exchange bonuses being offered on them. The company dealerships are giving exchange bonus of Rs 75,000 on Elantra and Rs 65,000 on Tucson.
