BMW reveals 2018 6 Series GT, will compete with Audi A7 and Mercedes-Benz CLS

The car maker is planning to introduce the 6 Series GT at the Frankfurt motor show in September 2017, and will launch it later in the UK in November.

After revealing the BMW 8 Series this year, the German car manufacturer has now revealed the 6 Series Grand Turismo. The car maker is planning to introduce the 6 Series GT at the Frankfurt motor show in September 2017, and will launch it later in the UK in November. As for the prices, it is expected that the 6-series GT will be priced around $70,695( around Rs 45 lakhs) and will compete with the likes of Audi A7 and Mercedes-Benz CLS.

The 2018 6-Series GT is based on BMW's modular CLAR platform( cluster architecture) like its siblings 5-Series and 7-Series and is lighter in weight by 150 kg. The 6-Series GT will come in 640i xDrive variant and will be powered by a 3.0 litre turbocharged 6-cylinder engine that produces 335 hp of power and 450 Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with all-wheel drive configuration. The company says the car can accelerate upto 0-100 kmph in 5.1 seconds and it can attain a top speed of 130 mph, with an option to raise it to 155 mph, which is around 280 km/h.

It is expected that BMW will add more powertrain options to the 6 Series GT line up after its official launch. They will be powered by a 4.4 litre twin turbocharged engine that will produce 455 hp of power and 650 Nm of torque. In addition, the German manufacturer is also planning to introduce a plug-in hybrid version with a 2.0-litre petrol engine in 6 series GT.

Inside the cabin, the 6 Series GT gets features such as a 12.3-inch instrument cluster,10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone integration and a Wi-fi system that can connect upto 10 phones. Also, the boot capacity has been increased upto 610 litres. In terms of safety, it gets rider electronic aides such as collision warning, blind spot warning, lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert, speed limit info, adaptive cruise control and traffic jam assist.
