While other manufacturers are focusing on products that will be in effect in the immediate future Tata Motors will be looking to pave the way to future mobility. Over the last year, Tata has changed the way they are looking at products, correctly gauging India’s switch to more aspirational and premium products, which makes their display at this year’s Auto Expo 2018 even more exciting. Now while a large number of products that will make it to the Expo are likely to be in concept form, there will also be quite a few products that will be ready to launch in full production guise. The 26 vehicles on display at Auto Expo 2018 will also have a range of commercial vehicles in addition to a showcase of Tata’s advancements in connected mobility that is aimed at smart cities that are emerging across the subcontinent.
In the last few weeks running up to the Auto Expo 2018, Tata has released a teaser image showcasing a likely 5 models that will be brought to the Expo. This comes after the release of a video invite with Tata CEO Guenter Butschek suggesting that at least three of those models will make it to the launch. However, Tata Motors has assured that they will be talking even more about these mystery cars in the weeks to come. But until then here’s our best guess for what Tata Motors is likely to bring to the 2018 Auto Expo which they promise to be the biggest single arena for Tata Motors till date!
Tata X451 at Auto Expo 2018
We have seen Tata extensively testing their upcoming premium hatchback over the course of 2017. The new hatch which is known only by its code name the X451 will be positioned just above the Tiago and take on the likes of the Hyundai i20 and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Based on Tata’s new AMP or Advanced Modular Platform, the hatch is likely to get updated versions of the Tiago’s 1.2-litre petrol engine and 1.05-litre diesel motor along with a 1.2 petrol 110 hp motor from the Nexon for the go-faster version in the future. However, we will have to wait for its debut at the Auto Expo 2018 to see what this premium hatch is likely to look like, although we do know that it will get touches from Tata Motor’s Impact design language.
Tata H5 at the Auto Expo 2018
This one is likely to be one of the most exciting products to make it out of the Tata Motors camp at the Auto Expo 2018, sharing its underpinnings with the Land Rover Discovery Sport’s L550 platform. The new SUV known only as the H5 will make it with two seating layouts, a five-seater and a seven-seater. Powering this SUV will be CA’s 2.0-litre, four-cylinder MultiJet II diesel engine, the five-seater will get the 140hp version, while the seven-seater will get it in a 170hp tune.
Tata Tigor & Tiago Sport at the Auto Expo 2018
Finally, the Tata Tigor and Tiago sport might also make their debut at the Auto Expo 2018, the first product from the tie-up between Tata Motors and Jayem Auto. Over the years, Jayem has been to Tata what AMG is to Mercedes, a dedicated R&D provider giving us cars like the 265 hp Indica Silhouette and the insane Super Nano at the last Auto Expo! Also on the list are likely to be the Tata Tigor and Tiago EVs in full production spec, read our full story on that here!
