Auto Expo 2018: Tata Motors has unveiled the Tata Tiago JTP performance hatch and the Tata Tiago JTP performance sedan at the Auto Expo 2018.Tata The Tata Motors announced in August 2016, that they would tie-up with Coimbatore based Jayem Automotive to build performance versions of their existing line-up that would bear the JTP performance badging. The JTP stands for Jayem Tata Performance. Incase this is the first you are hearing of Jayem Automotive, they are a Coimbatore based performance company with a long history of building fast cars. The illustrious list includes the MRF N+ 300 hp Rally Cedias’, the MRF F2000 Formula 3 car, the 265 hp V6 Indica Silhouette and the more recent 230 hp Super Nano. Although like most of the unveils at the Auto Expo 2018, neither the Tiago or the Tigor JTP have been given launch dates.
The JTP suffix which is badged on both cars, gets a really cool outline of the Kari Motor Speedway in coimbatore, much like the ones you would see on Nurburgring Edition go-faster cars. In a strange way, this adds a bit of heritage and pride for Indian motorsports fans who have not received much in the form of recognition in the past from the Automotive industry. Both the Tiago & Tigor JTP will be powered by the Nexon’s 1.2 litre turbo-petrol motor that makes 110 hp and 150 Nm of torque. With performance oriented tweaks to the intake and exhaust system to ensure fluidity, both the go-faster sedans will have considerable power advantages over the Naturally aspirated petrol units. Now although the two go-faster sibling cars unveiled at the Auto Expo 2018, will have reworked gearboxes designed to improve acceleration although no hard performance figure have been revealed yet, we have faith in Jayem boss J Anand, who always does his best when it comes to performance. The cars get go faster suspension setups as well and have lowered springs and ride height, making them the most complete mass market performance cars in India till date. And not just a slap on sticker mark that most ‘performance’
Cosmetically, the JTP siblings get a lot to set them apart from their standard car donor cars. The front bumper get a large functional air dam, a cosmetically large fog lamp housing with red embellishments, the bonnet and the fenders too get air vents. Smoked projector lamps and a rear diffuser are also included in the plethora of subtle visual updates. The Tiago and Tigor JTP also get diamond cut alloy wheels although with modest 15 inch rims.
Although Tata have not announced a launch date yet, expect that to follow soon after the clout clears from the Auto Expo 2018.
