After numerous spy shots and images, Mahindra’s next SUV codenamed S201 is likely to get both five-seat and seven-seat configuration. Mahindra’s five-seater SUV is likely to be a sub-4 meter sub-compact SUV and the other one will be a stretched version with third-row seating making it a seven-seater like the Honda BR-V, says a report on Autocar. Mahindra’s upcoming SUV is based on the SsangYong Tivoli and will underpin its X100 platform.
Globally, Mahindra owned SsangYong Motor Company have two variants of its Tivoli SUV named standard and XLV. SsangYong Tivoli XLV is a bot longer than the standard variant of Tivoli and is longer by about 238mm. However, it is used for additional boot space instead of seating capacity. In India, this increased space can be used to put the third-row seats making for a possible 5+2 seating configuration. We also expect the interiors and overall dimensions of the Mahindra S201 SUV to be similar to that of v SsangYong Tivoli but the exterior design will follow the Mahindra’s family design and will be similar to that as seen on the Mahindra XUV500 and Mahindra Scorpio.
At the launch of Mahindra KUV100 NXT the company confirmed that it has accelerated the development of its new petrol engine range and it is likely that the new 1.5L petrol engine will make its market debut with these new SUVs. There will also be a new 2.0L petrol engine that will debut in 2019. The company will also launch the Mahindra S201 with a 1.5 litre, four-cylinder diesel engine that could generate 125 hp. The SUV is expected to make its market debut in the second quarter of 2018 but might be showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo in February. Mahindra’s sub-4-meter SUV will rival the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford Ecosport and Tata Nexon while the longer version of S201 SUV will sit below Mahindra XUV500 and rival Honda BR-V.
