2017 Skoda Kodiaq launched in India at a price of Rs 34.49 lakh: Will Skoda’s first 7-seater SUV be able to take on Toyota’s Fortuner?

Skoda's Kodiaq SUV has been launched in India today at a price of Rs 34.49 lakh. The SUV comes with the same 2.0 litre turbocharged, diesel engine that does duty on Volkswagen Tiguan. The engine produces 148 hp of power and 340 Nm of torque. The diesel motor is mated to 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox with an all-wheel drive as standard. It is expected that company might launch the petrol version of Kodiaq later. The Kodiaq has a boot space of 270 litre, which can be increased to 2,005 litres by folding rear seats. The SUV measures 4,697 mm in length, 1,882 mm in width, 1,676 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,791 mm. It has a ground clearance of 187mm and has a fuel tank capacity of 63 litres. The Kodiaq is based on the Volkswagen Group MQB platform that underpins Octavia and Volkswagen Tiguan. The SUV gets a list of features such as an electric tailgate, dual-zone automatic climate control, engine start/stop button and cruise control. On the exterior, the SUV gets features such as projector headlamps with LED DRL's, panoramic sunroof and side body cladding. The SUV comes with features such as 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirror Link.

In terms of safety, Skoda Kodiaq gets 9 airbags as standard along with a host of features such as ABS, ESP, traction control, 360-degree parking sensors, and reverse-parking camera. The SUV also gets 5-star rating in Euro NCAP. The Kodiaq will be the first seven-seater vehicle by Skoda in India and competes with the likes of Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner. The Ford Endeavour which is available in a price range between Rs 24.7 lakh-Rs 30.8 lakh, while Toyota Fortuner is offered at a price of Rs 25.54 lakh and Rs 30.91 lakh. The Kodiaq comes with 4 colour options: Lava Blue, Magic black, Grey and White.
