Hyundai has launched the new Verna in India at a starting price of Rs 7.99 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. The 2017 Hyundai Verna is powered by a 1.6 litre Dual VTVT petrol and a 1.6 litre U2 CRDi VGT diesel engine. The petrol variants produce 123 hp of maximum power and 151 Nm of torque. The diesel versions, on the other hand, generates 128 hp of power and 260 Nm of torque. The engines are paired to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The petrol manual variants deliver a claimed fuel efficiency of 17.70 kmpl, while the automatic delivers 15.92 kmpl. The diesel manual versions deliver 24.75 kmpl and 21.02 kmpl of the automatic trims. The car is now bigger and spacious than the previous generation model as the length, width and headroom of the car have been increased, creating more space for the rear passengers. The car now measures 4,440 mm in length, 1,729 mm in width and 1,465 mm in height. The Verna has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm and a ground clearance of 165 mm.
The new Verna gets segment-first features that are not available on its competitors like the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento and the Skoda Rapid. The new features include front-ventilated seats and rear curtains. The Verna now gets an eco coating that controls and eliminates foul smell if any from the cabin. The higher variants are equipped with features like six airbags, rear parking sensors, rear parking camera and cruise control. The interior also features a multi-info 1 3.5-inch Mono TFT LCD, rear adjustable headrest, sliding front centre console armrest along with rear A/C vents and an updated 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice recognition and navigation. The infotainment system also features Apple Carplay, Android Auto and MirrorLink along Smart Surround System with 6 speakers. Another highlight of the 2017 Verna includes a hands-free boot lid or the hands-free ‘smart trunk’ that allows passengers or the drivers to easily open the boot by just standing close to the boot. The company has also equipped the car with active and passive safety features that include ISOFIX as standard, impact sensing auto-door lock and cornering lamps.
The new Verna is based on the Hyundai’s Fluidic design language philosophy, same as the Hyundai Elantra. The fifth generation Verna also uses the company’s new K2 platform ‘super body structure’, which makes use of 50 percent advanced high-strength steel. The new platform improves the performance and enhances the safety of the vehicle as the new chassis has undergone structural changes. The exterior of the Verna features a cascade design front grille, an electric sunroof, projector headlamps with LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps), projector fog lamps with chrome surrounds and two-piece LED tail lamps.
