South Korean manufacturer Kia has revealed the third generation Picanto at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The car will be sold in the UK starting first quarter of this year. The new Picanto has been designed at the Kia's two design centres in Namyang, Korea and Frankfurt, Germany. First launched in 2011 in Europe, this is the third generation Picanto, and has received major updates in design and engine. It now comes with an additional engine option. In terms of features, the car will now come with a host of additional equipment such as new projector headlamps, Autonomous Emergency Braking and others.
The new Kia Picanto will be available three engine options - 1.0 litre,1.25 litre petrol engine and a new 1.0-litre T-GDI engine. The 1.0 litre MPI, three cylinder engine delivers 66 hp of power and 96 Nm of torque, while 1.25 litre, four cylinder petrol engine produces 83 hp of power and 122Nm of torque. The most powerful engine in Picanto line up is 1.0 litre T-GDI engine that delivers 99hp of power and 172Nm of torque. For transmission, all engines are paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, while the 1.25-litre petrol engine is also available with a four-speed automatic transmission.
2017 Kia Picanto has received major updates on the outside, such as new projector headlamps with LED indicators, LED daytime running lights, shark-fin antenna on the roof and 'tiger-nose' grille. The car comes equipped with 14-inch steel wheels and the customer can also get a choice of aluminium design wheels from 14 to 16-inch diameter. The company has also introduced the sportier version of Kia known as 'GT line', which comes with red, silver and black accents on the grille, side intakes, side skirts and at the rear. The new Picanto measures 3,595 mm in length, 1,595 mm in width and 1,485 mm in height, and the wheelbase is 2,400 mm.
Inside the cabin, the Kia Picanto gets features such as 7.0-inch 'floating' touchscreen HMI (human-machine interface) compatible with smartphones as it supports Apple Carplay and Android Auto. It also has reversing camera, wireless smartphone charger, USB port and chrome accents on the dashboard. Customers will also have customisation options which will include five colours. The GT line also gets and optional D-Cut sport steering wheel.
In terms of safety, the frame of the all-new Picanto is made of the Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS). It comes with six airbags as standard and an optional knee airbag. In addition, it features Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.
