Hot on the heels of the 2017 E-Class, Mercedes-Benz has gone for the encore with a third E-Class joining the ranks of their E-line up in India. The E220D Diesel will join the existing E200 petrol and E350 Diesel. The newest E-class sits square in between the existing models priced at 57.14 lakh(ex-showroom, Pune).
The new E220d will get an all new engine, built ground up in their plant at Chakan. A 2.0-litre aluminium turbo-diesel will replace the outgoing 2.1-litre engine. Courtesy the aluminium construct, the new motor sheds 17% in terms of weight and -- as a result -- the engine is 13% more efficient. It will also make an incredible 192 bhp of power and 400Nm of torque, transmitting the power to the wheels is Mercedes’ 9G-Tronic transmission. All accounting, the new 220D will touch the 100kmph mark in 7.8 seconds with a top speed of 240 kmph. Impressive figures for a diesel executive saloon.
Equipment wise, the E220d will share most of the E200 petrol's equipment. Including LED headlamps with Daytime Running Lights, LED tail lights, rain sensing windscreen wipers, 17-inch alloy wheels, airbags, ABS, ESP, tyre pressure monitor and more. Those aside the usual list of E-Class creature comforts have not been left out the inside gets 64-colour ambient lighting, reclining rear seats with comfort headrests, 3-zone climate control and tied together by a leather draped dashboard.
The E220D not only adds an optional smaller diesel to those aren’t interested in the extra powerful V6 3.0 Diesel, but also fits perfectly under the Delhi diesel ban cut-off. In case you were wondering why?
