Riding responsibly is paramount and while most riders flout traffic laws, doing so at times can result in serious injuries and in some cases, death. The latter happened in this case at the East Coast Road as two motorcycles collided with each other while crossing an intersection, both being on the wrong side of the road. While the rider and pillion traveling towards Mahabalipuram were lucky and suffered minor injuries, the duo traveling towards Chennai could not cross and were run over by a TNSTC (Tamilnadu State Transport Corporation) bus leading to instant death. The CCTV footage below shows the chilling video and how it happened.
The deceased have been identified as Sajan, 20 years old and Lokesh aged 22 years of Injambakkam who were headed to Chennai. A case has been filed against the deceased, riders on the other motorcycle, Vignesh and his pillion rider as well as the TNSTC bus driver. According to local authorities, the bus driver, Bhaktachalam has been booked as he was driving the bus at 60 kmph where the speed limit was 40 kmph.
This is not the first instance where the notorious ECR Road has come into the spotlight for the wrong reason. A number of illegal races happen on the straight section of ECR Road in Chennai. Recently over 10 supercars were seized, one of them owned by the son of a Tamil Nadu minister and another by a sports star.
