Since a long time, the automatic two-wheeler segment has been ruled by the Honda Activa. However, other two-wheeler manufacturers have continuously tried getting a share of this growing segment. People today, are opting for automatic scooters in the country as they are fuel efficient, easy to ride and manoeuvrable. One such scooter that has impressed the customers in the recent past is the TVS Jupiter. Talking about the TVS Jupiter, the scooter has now become one of the favourite commuters as it is loaded by “Zyada” features!
Let’s see whether the Jupiter is actually loaded with “Zyada” features or not! We got to ride the TVS Jupiter MillionR scooter in the city as well on the highways and are pretty impressed with it. As the company says “Zyada Ka Fayda”, it has been justified in terms of mileage, features and body colour options and convenience.
The Jupiter looks appealing, as it comes with protruding headlamps, edgy rear design and an attractive console metre. The tail lamp of the scooter has been equipped with LED lights, while the halogen headlights feature two pilot lamps on either side. The LED tail lamps add a dash of premium flavour to the design. The stainless steel muffler guard not only guards your dress, but also looks good with its glossy shine.
TVS has offered the Jupiter with two coloured panels – all-black and beige (available only in TVS Jupiter ZX trim). The one we got to ride is the MillionR with the beige theme. The colour coordination seamlessly blends with the overall visual character of the scooter. The height of the saddle measures at 765mm, which is good for a person like me with a height of 5.0” or 5.2” or for new riders. Another attractive feature, which I liked is the chrome finished ORVMs, which give the scooter a premium feel.
Wrapped with tubeless tyres at both the ends, the tyres offer decent grip on all road surfaces. I rode the Jupiter on bumpy roads as well as smooth roads with twists and turns and was left impressed mostly. The brakes are effective and the suspension offers a good balance between ride quality and handling. Jupiter gets a telescopic suspension at the front and gas charged mono shock at the rear. For effective braking, the Jupiter gets drum brakes, but the MillionR is equipped with disc brakes. I was inspired by the handling of the scooter as well. The handlebar is light and offers good feedback through corners.
Another thing I liked about the Jupiter is the wider footboard, which is more comfortable and spacious. The seats are comfortable and offer more cushioning than most of the competitors. The saddle also looks attractive since features dual-tone colour with contrast stitching. The company says that the seats are dura-cooled and they don’t get heated up while you park it in the sun.
With a fuel tank capacity of 5 L, one can explore the city and its surroundings as the scooter offers decent fuel-efficiency. The Jupiter delivers good fuel economy whether you are riding in the city or on the highway. Besides this, the Eco and Power mode on the console metre helps the rider drive in the economy zone. If you maintain a constant speed between 0 to 80 km/h, the Eco mode will light up. If you cross 80 km/h, the Power mode turns on, which also means that the scooter is consuming more fuel. This is good for those who want to keep a check on their vehicle’s mileage or “Kitna Deti Hai”.
The kick start and even the side stand and main stand are easy to operate, unlike the Yamaha Fascino, for which one needs to look for the side stand, as it as it is placed more towards the underside of the footboard. Jupiter is the first scooter to offer an external fuel lid, however, but you still have to get down, and open it by turning the key to the right in the seat lock (turning left would open the seat).
The Jupiter looks sturdy and powerful from its stance. It comes wrapped in metal frame and body just like the Honda Activa. The console also has a low fuel indicator, which lets the rider know about the low fuel. Jupiter also offers ample storage space as there are two retractable hooks in the front, where one can carry up to 3kgs of load each – one under the handlebar and one under the seat. The Jupiter also has an under seat storage where you can store a half-face helmet, if not a full face helmet. The under seat storage has 17 L of space. In the market, with little space to park the scooter, the dual side handle lock came to my rescue. There was not enough space for me to lock the scooter on the left, so I locked the handle on the right for more parking convenience.
The Jupiter MillionR is not equipped with a mobile charging provision, but one can ask for it during the time of purchase. The TVS Jupiter can be bought with a wide choice of colours, both metallic and matte – Royal Wine, Matte Blue, Stallion Brown, Titanium Grey, Sparkling Silver, Midnight Black, Volcano Red and Pristine White. TVS offers the Jupiter in three trims, which are priced at Rs. 49034 for the standard, Rs. 51057 for the ZX variant and Rs. 53034 for the MillionR edition. all the prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.
