KTM came up with a new perspective on sports-touring when the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer revealed the 1290 Super Duke GT in 2016. Now the capable off-roader and a cross-continent traveller seems to have been given added practicality and comfort. KTM 1290 Super Duke GT had that something different because the current model has quite bonkers acceleration. It has the capability of attacking a corner at great speeds and to take two passengers with luggage in comfort. The current 1290 Super Duke has been appreciated for its ability to take on different ride requirements, but then there were a couple of things that were a bit off. However, now KTM seems to have corrected them as per the spy shots published by Motorcyclenews.
The bonkers attitude of the KTM 1290 Super Duke GT comes from the fact that it is a Super Duke R with a windscreen and panniers. However, the R has been updated since the latest GT was revealed, hence it is time for the Super Duke GT to be upgraded as well. The first change that is seen is the front end.
KTM 1290 Super Duke GT’s whole front cowl has changed, with new fairing lowers (still incorporating cornering lights) stretching out further than the old model. There’s a new screen too, which is larger and the height adjustment mechanism may have been improved upon.
It will be powered by a 173bhp, 1301cc V-twin. The new KTM 1290 Super Duke GT will come with new electronics, a new TFT dash. The frame, suspension and wheels will likely remain the same. Expect the new GT to go on sale in late 2018.
