Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India teased on 9th February, 2017 about the launch of their new scooter. Details were sketchy, however, according to the company, the new scooter would be 'Frontastic'. The company has silently introduced the same 'new scooter', the Activa 125. With a starting price of Rs 56,954, ex-showroom, Delhi, the new two-wheeler now has the existing 124.9 cc motor with BSIV compliance and AHO or Automatic Headlamp On feature as well as LED position lights. All variants offered in the Honda Activa 125 range will also have CBS or Combined Braking System which will become a mandatory safety feature by April 2018 for two-wheelers with 125 cc or lower capacity. Along with the safety of the CBS, the optional 190 mm front disc brake available on the top-end variant is also available.
The highlight of the new Activa 125 is a new mid-variant which fills the gap between the more expensive version with a front disc brake. This version will be offered with alloy wheels, however, it will miss out on the front disc brake. The HET or Honda Eco Technology motor generates 8.6 hp of power at 6,500 rpm and 10.12 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm. This air cooled engine is mated to the company's V-matic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) and the powertrain has a claimed top speed of 85 kmph. At the launch, Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President - Sales and Marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, “Activa 125 is No. 1 selling 125cc automatic scooter of India with over 6 lakh customers and counting. Invigorating the segment once again, Honda’s Activa 125 is now the first automatic scooter in India to meet both the AHO and BS-IV norms. Having completely new Frontastic looks with compelling combination of new LED position lights and chrome chest, the new Alloy variant and added convenience features; we are confident that the all new Activa 125 will strengthen its leadership even more in 2017-18.”
In addition to the safety and emission norm compliance, the Honda Activa 125 is also offered with a new colour option, Mat Crust Metallic along with the existing shades of Pearl Amazing White, Midnight Blue Metallic, Black and Rebel Red Metallic. The convenience of a mobile charging socket and a retractable hook are still a part of the package. The highest selling scooter in its segment will compete with the likes of the Suzuki Access 125.
