It has been almost four years now that Hero MotoCorp first showcased its HX 250R concept. The quarter-litre sports bike concept made its debut at the 2014 Auto Expo followed by the 2016 edition but ditched the 'R' suffix when it was displayed in the latter. Now, in a recent interview to Times of India, Markus Braunsperger, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Hero MotoCorp has stated that the Hero HX250R project has been shelved and is no more into consideration. Hero MotoCorp believes that the market has moved up from 250cc to 300cc and higher segments and hence, launching a 250cc motorcycle at this point of time will not make much sense. Markus further added that it does not seem a good idea for the company to launch such a product that does not really hits the center of gravity of the market, especially when the company is entering as a new competition into the said segment.
On being asked about the future of the Hero HX250R, the official said that the same motorcycle packed with new technology will also not make much sense. This is due to the fact that the bike needs to be redesigned completely including the chassis. However, the good news is that Markus did not deny completely on a 250cc motorcycle and said that an advanced and better machine will come and not the HX250R. For this reason, you can expect a completely new concept from Hero MotoCorp with a 250cc engine at the nearing Auto Expo 2018.
At the 2016 Auto Expo, Hero MotoCorp showcased a number of concepts including Xtreme 200S and XF3R. While there is no news on the XF3R as of now, the company has hinted that it will soon launch the Xtreme 200S in India. Hero MotoCorp has also announced that the motorcycle will be launched around the next Expo and it is at the finish line regarding the same. Also, the XPulse adventure bike concept that was showcased at the 2017 EICMA will most likely be displayed at the biennial event.
