Hero Electric claims to be the path-bearer for the Electric two-wheeler in India. Having started working on Electric two-wheelers as far back as 2008, in the time they believe, they have garnered enough momentum to take the market head-on at this crossroads, as the market shifts to Electric over the next decade. To that end with just a few days to go for the Auto Expo 2018, Hero electric have showcased three electric mobility solution, that canvas various sections of the market from a mass-market scooter to high end folding electric lifestyle cycles. A prototype that they are calling the AXHLE-20 is a high-speed scooter, and two electric cycles.
Speaking on electric scooters at the launch, Naveen Munjal, Managing Director, “We are proud to showcase, our new range of electric two-wheelers, which have been specially designed for the aspirational Indian. The AXHLE-20 is a high-speed e-bike that promises the perfect blend of performance and efficiency. On the other hand, A2B Speed and Kuo Boost are premium electric bicycles that cater to upwardly mobile youth who value adventure and fitness”
The event which also served to commemorate the companies decade in the electric two-wheeler space, with the “10 years ahead” campaign. The interesting thing is that this campaign could either be declaring that Hero Electric is 10 years ahead or that they are speaking about the next ten years to come. Hero Electric already have 15 two-wheelers in the country and claim the lion's share of 65% of the market space.
The first on the launch list is their new electric scooter the AXHLE-20, which showed up to the unveil still in camo-guise. The AXHLE-20 is Hero’s first venture into what they are calling the high-speed Electric Scooter space, it gets a 4kW motor that is capable of producing a peak 6kW, Hero claim that the electric scooter can get up to 85 kms an hour and has a range of 110 kms on a single charge. The bike also gets additional battery slots which can boost the range to 330 kms on a charge. The scooter will also be wielding some tech in the form of the regenerative braking and can be fast charged in 4 hours from nought.
Now A2B is a subsidiary of Hero Electric that has been working on the sidelines in Europe on premium upscale cycles, and they too have bolstered two new interesting additions to the Electric two-wheeler space although, they are bicycles for all practical purposes. Think of them as a modern-day moped.
The A2B speed makes .5 kW from its electric motor but is capable of traveling 70 kms on a single charge. With a top speed of 45 kms per hour. The A2B speed has an aluminium frame and eight gears through a Shimano XT derailleur gear system.
A2B Kuo Boost
The Kuo Boost is really really interesting, considering that it is essentially a foldable electric bike for the modern denizen. Think about it like this, you could start your commute fold hop onto the metro, hop-off and unfold your bike and head to work. Last-mile connectivity on your back. That is if your willing to lug 20 kg cycle around. If you are, you will have an .35kW electric motor with a top speed of 32 kmph. Although the centrepiece is the 60 km range from it’s lithium-ion battery. Which is rated to take a full 700 charge cycles or two years on everyday use.
