Aprilia is considering introducing a new 125 cc scooter that will be positioned below the SR 150. The upcoming scooter, the Aprilia SR 125 has been spied recently with an ARAI badge, which suggests that the scooter is undergoing homologation at the facility.
The new Aprilia SR 125 is likely to be powered by a 125 cc engine that will develop a maximum power of around 9.4 hp and churn out a peak torque of 8.2 Nm. The engine will be mated to a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) gearbox. The same engine also powers the Vespa SXL and the VXL 125s models. The scooter will be based on a tubular steel frame and telescopic fork at the front and a single-sided coil spring at the rear will do the suspension duties. The Aprilia SR 125 will also get a 220 mm disc at the front and a 140 mm drum at the rear.
As per the spied images, the new SR 125 cc scooter will take design inspiration from its bigger sibling, the SR 150. It will feature twin-headlamps on the front apron, 14-inch wheels and body decals in contrast with a bright colour scheme. The rear of the scooter will get split grab-rails similar to the Aprilia SR150 and will also get an ‘SR 125’ badging.
The new Aprilia SR 125 is expected to be priced lower than the SR 150 between Rs 55,000 and Rs 60,000 ex-showroom, Delhi and the sporty scooter will compete with the Honda Activa 125, Suzuki Access 125, Mahindra Gusto, Hero Maestro Edge and the likes.
