Auto Expo 2018 is now only a some days from us and by the looks of it, the spotlight will be taken by electric mobility solutions. While Hero Electric had been one of the very few prominent names in electric scooters, now the number will increase dramatically as the world's automotive world's focus shifts to electric powertrains. The need for electric emissions free vehicles will now gain some traction in the market, especially as the government's 'all electric by 2032' plan is upon us. The electric two-wheeler market will see a lot many new entrants this year with companies like Twenty Two Motors and Emflux revealing their offerings in the electric segment in India. Here are some of the neat prototypes and production ready electric two-wheelers that will be showcased or launched at the 2018 Auto Expo:
Hero is quite the torch-bearer in India when it comes to electric two-wheelers. The brand has had electric mobility options on sale much before the focus concentrated on electric powertrains in India. Hero Electric has had a 15 two-wheelers in the country claiming 65% of the market share. Hero will go a step ahead at the Auto Expo 2018 as well, unveiling an electric scooter and electric bicycles too.
A prototype called Hero AXHLE-20, a high-speed scooter, will be unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo along with two electric bicycles. It will come with a 4kW motor that is capable of producing a peak 6kW, and according to Hero, the electric scooter can get up to 85 km/h and will deliver a range of about 110 km on one charge.
TVS will be showcasing a new electric scooter called Proto at the 2018 Auto Expo, according to a Rushlane report. Based on the spy pictures, TVS Proto will be a full-fledged premium electric scooter. Details on the battery, motor and performance have not been revealed, however, it is speculated to come with a digital instrument console, telescopic front forks, alloy wheels, tubeless tyres, and an optional disc brake up front is also possible.
Twenty Two Motors Flow
Twenty Two Motors Flow is all set for an official launch at the Auto Expo 2018. An electric scooter with a lot of smart features on board, Twenty Two Motors Flow will be priced at about Rs 70,000. The Flow's battery will be portable and will be able to be charged at any five-ampere plug and takes a total of five hours to charge. The flow has a range of 80 km and if someone wants to extend this, Twenty Two Motors will lease an additional battery. A smart scooter because Twenty Two Motors Flow will come with a reverse gear, cruise control, 'drag' mode and others.
UM Renegade Thor
2018 Auto Expo will see India's first ever electric cruiser motorcycle at the UM Motorcycles' stall. The electric UM Renegade Thor was first unveiled at the EICMA 2017, and definitely going to be the most interesting offering from the American manufacturer. The exact specifications of the Thor have not been revealed, but it is expected that after a showcase at the Auto Expo 2018, the electric UM Renegade Thor will go on sale in India in the coming months.
Auto Expo 2018 will host the unveiling of a lot many electric mobility solutions, one of which is actually quite the beginning of a new segment within the electric market - an eco-friendly superbike. It has been christened Emflux One and according to the company, it will be capable of electronically restricted speeds of up to 200 km/h, along with boasting of a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 3 seconds.
Emflux One is mounted with an electric motor that churns out a maximum power output of 80 hp while the peak torque of 84 Nm. The Emflux One comes equipped with a Samsung Li-ion battery rated at 9.7 kWh. After a full charge, the motorcycle will offer a range of 200 km in city riding conditions.
