Maruti Suzuki Swift was finally launched at the Auto Expo 2018 on 8 February. The new Swift had perhaps been the most awaited launch of this year, and is now on sale at a starting price of Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift has had a complete makeover inside and out. While the overall styling has been redone, even with a change in dimensions, the new Swift has the recognisable Swift appeal. This is also the first time, Maruti Suzuki Swift will be available with an automatic gearbox. The new Swift is also lighter than the outgoing version and hence has a better power to weight ratio.
2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift is based on Suzuki's 5th generation Heartect platform which has helped it shed considerable weight, hence assisting enhanced acceleration and better agility. The new platform provides more strength and advanced safety. The new Maruti Suzuki Swift is wider than the older version, with a length of 3840 mm, height 1530 mm, 1735 mm width, 2450 mm of wheelbase and a ground clearance of 163 mm.
Recently launched at 2018 Auto Expo, the new Maruti Suzuki Swift has an all-new design with more a more aerodynamic body. It gets design cues from Euro hatches such as wraparound windscreen and more. However, even with extensive changes to the body, the new Maruti Suzuki Swift has the instantly recognisable Swift appeal.
The new Maruti Suzuki Swift looks modern, sporty and a lot more premium. It will come with a hexagonal grille with chrome inserts, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, LED tail lamps, ORVMs indicator and fog lamps.
Engine and performance
2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift comes with two engine options - a 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel units. While the petrol engine generates 81 hp and 113 Nm of torque, the diesel unit puts out 75 hp and 190 Nm of torque. According to Maruti Suzuki, the new Swift is capable of delivering 28.4 kmpl from the diesel variant and 22 kmpl from the 1.2L petrol unit, which is an increase of about 8% compared to the previous model.
The new Maruti Suzuki Swift comes equipped with a new infotainment system that features Apple Carplay and Android Auto. With revised NVH levels, the 2018 Swift will also boast of a rear parking camera and revised air conditioning performance. The overall appeal of the new Swift's interior will be more up class and modern, and will now feature a sporty flat-bottom steering wheel, instead of a standard one.
Boot space and safety
While the outgoing Swift had a boot of 316 litres, the boot space in the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift has been increased by 54 litres. The new Swift is shorter in length but wider and lower, and has a longer wheelbase. In terms of safety, the all-new Swift comes fitted with ABS, EBD and ISOFIX mounts as standard.
2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift is now available at Maruti Suzuki Arena dealerships at a starting price of Rs 4.99 lakh. The petrol version comes in four variants - LXi, VXi, ZXi and ZXi automatic, price range of which stretches from Rs 4.99 lakh to 7.29 lakh. Automatic transmission is available in VXi and ZXi, priced at Rs 6.34 lakh and 6.96 lakh, respectively.
The diesel version of the new Maruti Suzuki Swift comes in four trims - LDi, VDi, ZDi and ZDi automatic, priced at a range starting from Rs 5.99 lakh to Rs 8.29 lakh. Automatic transmission is available in the VDi and ZDi variants, priced at Rs 7.34 lakh and Rs 7.96 lakh respectively. All prices are ex-showroom.
