Dr. K. J. Joseph is a distinguished economist and Director at the Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation (GIFT), Thiruvananthapuram. With over 33 years of experience in research, teaching, and policy advisory, he is a globally recognised authority on the economics of innovation, information technology, and the structural transformation of developing economies.
Before joining GIFT, he served as the Ministry of Commerce Chair Professor at the Centre for Development Studies (CDS) and was a Professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). His influence extends globally through his role as the Secretary General of Globelics (the Global Network for Economics of Learning, Innovation, and Competence Building Systems).
His international expertise is underscored by his work as an IT Policy Consultant for UNESCAP, where he advised multiple Southeast Asian nations, and as a consultant to UNCTAD. He is also the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Innovation and Development (Taylor & Francis, London).
Dr. Joseph’s was a Gold Medalist in MA Economics at Calicut University and earned his MPhil and PhD from JNU. His global standing was further cemented as a Ford Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellow at Yale University.
He is a prolific author with 8 books published by prestigious international houses (Oxford University Press, Sage, Routledge, Palgrave Macmillan, and Edward Elgar) and over 90 research papers. His advisory roles are highly influential, serving on expert committees for both the Government of India and the Government of Kerala, including the Kerala State Planning Board. As the Editor-in-Chief of Kerala Economy, he is a definitive voice for fiscal and economic analysis in the region.
