Yahoo!, Google to add 4 more languages

Internet giants like Google and Yahoo! are expanding into more regional languages. Google India is coming out with four regional languages including Marathi, Bengali, Oriya and Gujarati in the next six months that will provide regional language support to small medium businesses in India for its AdWords platform (Googles advertising programme).

At present, Google is providing support to Indian businesses in six languages which includes Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malyalam, Hindi and English.

Sridhar Seshadri, head of online sales, Google told FE, With over 35 million SMBs in the country, India is a strategic market for Google and we want to maximise our reach across India. Gujarat and Maharashtra are one of Indias biggest business hubs. Apart from this, Orrisa and Bengal also have a lot of SMBs who would be able to grow their businesses once we come out with these regional languages.

Seshadri said that the number of Internet users is going to cross 200 million by 2015 which will inturn increase the demand for regional languages.
