Talks aimed at further liberalising world trade appear doomed to fail unless the European Union improves an offer to reduce duties on agricultural imports, Australias trade minister said. Negotiations now under way in the World Trade Organisation offer an historic opportunity to lift millions of people out of poverty by providing growth, Mark Vaile wrote in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung daily on Monday. But with only six weeks to go before WTO ministers meet in Hong Kong the negotiations are poised on a precipice, he added.
