Wipro Healthcare Scouts For Business, Tech Partners

In a bid to tap the $25-billion healthcare and life science services market and become one of the top three vendors in this area, Wipro Healthcare & Life Science is looking at both business as well technology partners.

The six-month-old company, after the transfer of the clinical and scientific devices business of Wipro Biomed and healthcare solution and services business of Wipro Technologies to it, is actively looking at involving both technology and business partners to penetrate the healthcare and life science segments.

Wipro Healthcare & Life Science chief executive A Vijayarajan said, In order to keep ourselves updated about the changing needs of the markets worldover and to gain more domain knowledge, Wipro Healthcare is open to joining hands with technology as well business partners.

Products and technology keep changing. For updating solutions, a lot of domain and IT knowledge is required. Though we have experience in this area, gained from our association with GE Medical, we would like to focus more on the domain knowledge side, where partners would bring in the necessary strength, he added.

The company is interested in concentrating on clinical trials, data management, statistical analysis and creating correlation among these things. The aim behind floating this company is to become one of the top three vendors in the healthcare and life science businesses, he pointed out.

The partners would help in providing the necessary support services to accelerate the drug discovery process further and generate a huge amount of data on chemical compounds, he said. Each one of these segments need IT services, customs developments, standard applications development and integrated services, he added.

Wipro Healthcare and Life Science has identified three key addressable markets - the US, Europe and India. Hospitals, physician practices, health insurance companies, hospital information system, clinical and lab information systems, web-based Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act compliant, internet-based electronic claims systems are areas which the new outfit will target. With its existing strengths in embedded devices and software engineering excellence, it will target large medical and analytical device companies as well as healthcare IT companies. At present, over 250 professionals are employed in this outfit.
