Market-leader Indian Airlines (IA) rolled up its sleeves to respond to any Air Deccan challenge. IA commercial director Anil Goyal said, Everyone will react at that time, depending on how many seats it (Air Deccan) will offer and at what fare levels. The pricing initiatives are usually matched by others.

IA on Friday took on rivals, Jet and Sahara, with a new super-apex fare slab on tickets bought 28 days (D-28) in advance. The pric-es matched Jets fares (FE, July 23). IA bettered the advance purchase date by two days. The super apex fares were for eight metro sectors: Delhi-Mum-bai (Rs 2,500), Delhi-Kolkata (Rs 3,000), Delhi-Hyderabad (Rs 3,000), Delhi-Bangalore (Rs 3,500), Delhi-Chennai (Rs 3,500), Kolkata-Mumbai (Rs 3,500), Kolkata-Banga-lore (Rs 3,500) and Chenn-ai-Kolkata (Rs 3,500). These D-28 fares are on one-way trips. The offer is valid till November 15 (the last date of travel).
