The US on Friday expressed its desire to join the 7th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit, which is scheduled for January 2015, as one of the partner countries. This comes on the heels of PM Narendra Modi's maiden visit to the US after the US government put him under a visa ban in 2005 for his alleged roles in the 2002 Gujarat riots.

Interacting with mediapersons, Consul General in American Consulate in Mumbai Tom Vajda said the US has sent a formal proposal to Gujarat CM Anandi Patel in this regard.

This is the first time the US has approached to be the partner country for Vibrant Gujarat Summit after the US cut down all diplomatic contact with the Gujarat government when Modi was CM and had not shown any official interest in the first six episodes.

However, Modi's recent trip to the US as PM seems have changed a lot of things between Gujarat and America. Modi is expected to inaugurate the high profile event.
