US sets June deadline for N Korea talks

The US has set a de facto deadline of late June for North Korea to return to six-party talks on ending its nuclear arms programme, a diplomatic source in Tokyo said on Wednesday.

US impatience over the stalled talks has been rising and US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice urged North Korea during an Asian tour last week to return to talks immediately.

Obviously, one of the options that the United States has in mind beyond that is to refer the matter to the UN Security Council, the source added.
