His government under fire ever since the rape and hanging of two girls in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday pulled up bureaucrats and police officers for being ?slower than the media? in responding to incidents of crime and law and order problems.

At a meeting in Lucknow, the Chief Minister asked Director General of Police A L Banerjee when did he learn of the Badaun incident. ?Next day? was Banerjee?s reply, said an officer who attended the meeting. Other officers at the meeting gave different timings on the Badaun alert.

Throughout the meeting, the Chief Minister kept saying ?no compromise on law and order will be tolerated?. The officer quoted him as saying ?even the United Nations has made a comment?.

Citing the example of a similar incident in Kannauj, he said the media showed footage around 3.30 in the night and police reached there after watching the news.
