Uma Bharti Surrenders, Sent To Judicial Custody

At the end of her day-long train odyssey, former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti, against whom a non-bailable warrant was issued in a case of rioting 10 years ago, surrendered on Wednesday before a local court in Hubli, which sent her to 14 days' judicial custody after she did not not seek bail.

K'taka To Unveil New Hardware Policy
The government of Karnataka is working on a industry-friendly hardware policy, which is expected to be unveiled by this November, Karnataka secretary - IT, biotechnology and science & technology, M K Shankaralinge Gowda, said while addressing a meeting in Chennai to promote Bangalore IT.Com. The government will also set up a hardware park near the Bangalore international airport, he added.

B'lore Airport Project Work In Oct
Larsen and Toubro would start the civil construction work for Rs 1,150 crore Bangalore international airport project by October this year. The financial closure is expected to be over by next month, deputy managing director a Ramakrishna said.

Southern Spice's Voice Hunt

KASSIA Plea To End Truckers' Stir
Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (KASSIA) has made an appeal to the truckers unions to withdraw the strike. The KASSIA release said that the strike is affecting the day to day production of SSIs. Meanwhile, FKCCI has said that the strike has already resulted in increase in prices of vegetables and other essential commodities. FKCCI has appealed to the government to discuss the issue of the service tax with truckers unions.

VSP Hands Over Land
The Visakhapatman Steel Plant (VSP) has handed over advance possession of 1,400 acres of land to the Commissioner of Ports, government of Andhra Pradesh, for the development of a minor port at Gangavaram, according a release. The handing over was an outcome of the advice given by the government of India. Documents were signed by Mr K Mangapathi Rao, Commissioner of Ports, government of AP and by Mr PK Mohapatra, AGM, VSP on Wednesday, the release said. Earlier, VSP had taken possession of 700 acres of land at K Kotapadu Mandal from the AP government for development of compensatory afforestation. The AP government had also paid Rs 20.02 crore to RINL/VSP for exchange of land.

IA Spl Fare To B'lore on Aug 27
Indian Airlines is offering a special one way economy fare of Rs 1,155 for passengers travelling to Bangalore by its Chennai-Colombo flight on Aug 27. The flight IC 573 would be operated via Bangalore on Aug 27 and passengers travelling by the same to Bangalore could avail of the "positioning flight fare" (one way economy fare), an IA release said.
