TVS Motor reports seven percent rise in revenue

Two-wheeler manufacturer TVS Motor Company on Friday reported a seven per cent rise in revenue to 988.70 crore for the first quarter ended June 2009 from Rs 925.45 crore in the year ago period.

The total two-wheeler sales stood at 3.50 lakh units compared to 3.43 lakh units in the corresponding period of the previous financial year, registering a growth of two per cent, a company release said.

Motorcycle sales were reported at 1.54 lakh units in comparison to 1.71 lakh.However, the sales of the scooters grew by three per cent registering 67,568 units against 65,545 units during the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

The company, which has also sold three wheelers under the brand TVS King, also witnessed increase in its sales.The three wheeler sales tripled to 2,223 units compared to 765 units.

On the exports front, the company said it has been affected by the meltdown as the sales in the first quarter stood at 32,067 two wheeler units in comparison to 42,214 units recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year.
