Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has received complaints of the fixed service users of Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) in Delhi making calls from their phones from outside the city. Following this, Trai has issued two show cause notices to TTSL calling it violation of licence conditions where the fixed services have been used as mobile.

This is a big issue as it violates the licence conditions. We have received complaints and even have evidence. The fixed line number of Delhi is being used outside Delhi, a source at Trai said. The use of fixed services as mobile leads to the bypass of access deficit charges (ADC) and carrier charges.

In the recent past, the use of walky or fixed wireless terminals (FWTs) as mobile services has caught the regulators attention. Trai has sent a slew of notices to a number of service providers on the misuse of the service.

Earlier, Trai had written to all service providers to strictly comply with the licence conditions. The regulator had also written to DoT seeking a clarification on the licence conditions that would ensure that there is no misuse of fixed line services terminals.
