At least three persons were killed and 35 others injured when militants triggered a massive explosion outside the corporate headquarters of the state-owned Jammu and Kashmir Bank on Wednesday morning, official sources said.

The blast occurred around 10.15 am and was followed by some gunshots, sources said adding that several vehicles including the escort car of a former minister and MLA Usman Majid were damaged in the explosion.

The sources said it was not immediately known whether the former minister was among the injured. Police believe that a vehicle laden with RDX was used to trigger the explosion, which was so powerful that it was heard several kilometers away from the scene.

The scene presented a gory site with mangled pieces of vehicles and blood smeared parts of dead bodies strewn around.
