With pierced eyebrows and Sanskrit shlokas tattooed on his back, newcomer Mohit Ahlawat is brawny, brooding and has a boyish charm of his own. For, Ahlawat, born with the proverbial silver spoon in his mouth, muscling into the marquee wasnt the first career option. Ahlawats close friendship with T-Series scion Bhusan Kumar ensured that he got seen at the right parties in Mumbai. And one day when Ramgopal Varma called him for a role, Ahlawat almost said no. He saw my pictures and said that I would make an interesting baddie. And asked me to get a few blow ups done. And Ahlawat almost didnt call Varma back. After all he wanted to be hero, not the bad guy!

So next time around when Varma met Ahlawat, the aspiring actor impressed the film-maker and made him sign an exclusive contract.

Trade pundits have already labelled Ahlawat as a serious contender for the top job: that of Shah Rukh Khan! And considering Varma has roped in Ahlawat for three big films, Shiv, King and Sholay, it just goes on to prove his faith in him. In fact, reports say that no actor including Abhishek Bachchan and Ajay Devgan want to do films with him because he has such a commanding screen presence.

All Ahlawat needs now is a quick hit.
