If youve been struggling to catch Jayant Kochar, managing director of Delhi-based Amorettos Retail Pvt Ltd, head to the DLF Golf Club. The golf course is my second home, he avers. But unlike most others, Mr Kochars passion for golf is not the byproduct of a corporate lifestyle. Born to a family whose mantle displays nine National Golf Championship statues, golf has been a way of life. Practically since I was born, I had been hanging around golf courses, says Mr Kochar who began fiddling with a club at age 16, after completing his boarding school education.

A regular at national and regional tournaments earlier, Mr Kochar no longer plays competitive golf and instead restricts himself to corporate events alone. Theyre more social than competitive, he explains. He rarely misses a round of golf on Sundays and visits the driving range occasionally. Other than the DLF Golf Club,

Mr Kochar also patronises the Classic Golf Resort, the Golden Greens and the Delhi Golf Club.

Mr Kochar as recalls the thrill of entering the National championship for the first time and then going on to defeat the previous years winner, Rajkumar Pitambar, in the very first round. It is all the more memorable, he admits sheepishly, because he (Mr Pitambar) was the managing director of the company in which I was a management trainee! And then there was the newspaper report which mentioned how Mr Pitambar had been defeated by three generations from the same family referring to Mr Kochar, his uncle and his grandfather. Of course, he had won three National titles in between, Mr Kochars quick to add.

On a more philosophical note, this keen golfer says that, it is not only love for the game, but also the lessons golf offers on the business of living that attracts me to it. Lifes like a round of golf - something that will not last forever, but which you must seize and enjoy every moment of. He explains further: It requires the intellectual application of chess and the physical capability of most active sports, going on to add that it helps me to see others as they really are and makes me disciplined as well.

Like most golfers, his passion for golf extends to golf accessories as well. Callaway ERC2 Woods, Lacoste apparel and irons, a Ping putter, Titleist golf balls and FootJoy shoes are the brands that he digs.

So how does this manager so busy with popularising the concept of organised juice retailing squeeze in time to pursue golfs Twenty-four hours is long enough to indulge in what you are passionate about.
